Privacy Policy

Last updated: 18.09.2026

This policy explains what we do with personal data when you buy an InchKeeper gift card, receive one as a gift, or visit this website. It covers what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it.

Scottish Gift Cards is a trading name of Land Sales Direct Ltd, a company registered in Scotland (company number SC308696) with its registered office at Summit House, 4 Mitchell Street, Edinburgh EH6 7BD. We are the "data controller" for the personal data described here.

If you have any questions about this policy or about your data, email us at shop@scottishgiftcards.com.

The information we collect

If you buy a gift card

When you place an order we collect your name, email address and billing details, along with the details you enter for your gift: the recipient's name and email address, the name to appear on the Land Deed, your personal message and any images you choose for the card. We also keep a record of your order, including what you bought, when, and the payment reference.

Your card details are entered directly into our payment provider's secure form. We never see or store your full card number.

If someone sends you a gift card

If you have received an InchKeeper gift card, we were given your name and email address by the person who bought it for you, so that we could send you your gift. If a plot is allocated to you, we add your name and plot number to our Register of High InchKeepers. We use your email address to deliver the gift card and to deal with anything you contact us about. We do not add you to any marketing list because someone bought you a gift.

If you contact us or leave a review

When you email us, we keep your message and our reply. If you leave a product review, we store the name and email address you give us, along with your review, which is published on the site with your name.

When you visit the website

Like most websites, we collect some information automatically about how the site is used: pages viewed, the site or advert that brought you here, approximate location, device and browser type, and similar technical data. Most of this comes from cookies and similar technologies, and the ones that are not strictly necessary are only used if you agree to them in our cookie banner. Our Cookie Policy lists them in full and lets you change your choices at any time.

Why we use your information, and our legal basis

Under UK data protection law, we must have a legal basis for using personal data. Ours are:

To fulfil your order (performance of a contract). Taking payment, personalising and delivering the gift card, allocating a plot, issuing the Land Deed, and dealing with questions, refunds and problems.

To maintain the Register of High InchKeepers (legitimate interests, and performance of a contract). We keep a record of each plot number and the name of the Plot Holder so we can confirm who holds which plot and protect InchKeepers against false claims.

To run and improve our business (legitimate interests). Keeping the site secure, preventing fraud, responding to enquiries, publishing reviews, and understanding which pages and adverts work. Where this involves non-essential cookies, we rely on your consent instead.

To meet our legal obligations. Keeping accounting and tax records, and responding to lawful requests.

With your consent. Analytics, advertising and session-recording cookies, and any marketing emails you have asked to receive. You can withdraw consent at any time.

Who we share it with

We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing. We do share it with the service providers who help us run the business, and only so far as they need it:

Payments. Stripe processes card payments and holds the payment details you enter.

Website and email. Our hosting provider Cloudnext stores the website and its database, and Cloudnext sends our order confirmations and gift card emails.

Analytics and advertising. Google (Analytics, Google Ads and Search Console, through Site Kit and Google Tag Manager), Microsoft Clarity, which records how visitors move through pages so we can see where the site is confusing, and the TikTok pixel, which measures the results of our TikTok advertising. These only run where you have accepted the relevant cookies.

Cookie consent. CookieYes records your cookie choices.

We may also share data with our accountants or professional advisers, and with the authorities where the law requires it.

Transfers outside the UK

Some of these providers are based in, or store data in, the United States and other countries outside the UK. Where data is transferred, we rely on the UK's adequacy regulations or on standard contractual clauses approved for use in the UK, so your data keeps the same protection it has here.

How long we keep it

Order and payment records: seven years, to meet accounting and tax rules.

The Register of High InchKeepers: the Plot Holder's name and plot number for as long as the plot is held, because the register is the record of who holds which plot.

Gift card content (personal messages and images): two years after delivery, so we can resend a card if something goes wrong.

Emails and enquiries: two years from your last contact with us.

Reviews: for as long as the review is published.

Website analytics: as set out in our Cookie Policy.

Your rights

You have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected if it is wrong, and to have it deleted where we no longer need it. You can also object to or ask us to restrict how we use it, ask for it in a portable format, and withdraw any consent you have given.

Some limits apply. We have to keep order records for tax purposes, and we need to keep a Plot Holder's name and plot number for as long as the plot is held, because that is what the register is for.

To exercise any of these rights, email shop@scottishgiftcards.com. We will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Gifts for children

Our gift cards are bought by adults. If you are buying a gift for a child, only give us the details we need to deliver it. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children, and we do not send marketing to them. If you believe a child's data has been given to us and you would like it removed, email us and we will deal with it.

Keeping your information safe

The site runs over a secure connection, access to our systems is limited to the people who need it, and payment details are handled by our payment provider rather than stored by us. No system is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data and will tell you and the ICO if a breach affects you and the law requires it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed, and the current version always applies.
